Tips: How does a 3 pole AC contactor work?
A 3-pole AC contactor is an electromechanical switch used to control high-power circuits with low-power control signals. It has three main power contacts corresponding to three phases (L1, L2, L3) of an AC power supply. Here's how it works:
- Control Signal Activation: When a control voltage is applied to the contactor's coil, it generates a magnetic field.
- Magnetic Action: The magnetic field pulls a movable core or armature, closing the three main contacts.
- Power Flow: As the contacts close, they allow current to flow through the connected load (e.g., motor, heater) across all three phases.
- Deactivation: When the control signal is removed, the coil de-energizes, and a spring pushes the armature back, opening the contacts and stopping the power flow.
3-pole contactors are common in industrial applications for controlling motors, heaters, and other 3-phase loads.
