Tips: What is the overload protection mechanism of the step down converter?
DC-DC buck converters usually employ an overload protection mechanism to prevent the output current from exceeding the rated value and damaging the equipment or the buck converter itself. The most common overload protection mechanism is current limiting, which monitors the output current and switches off or limits the converter when it exceeds a set threshold. This is usually accomplished by introducing a current-sense resistor at the converter output and connecting it to a comparator. When the output current exceeds the set value, the comparator will trigger the controller to turn off the switching tube or reduce the duty cycle, thereby limiting the output current. In addition, some buck converters may also use mechanisms such as over-temperature protection, short-circuit protection, or input over-voltage protection to enhance overload protection.
